JaxCOE Innovation Connection Conference – Finding Solutions to World Problems

This last Friday, Kevin Koym, Tech Ranch CEO, had the opportunity to speak at the Jacksonville Community of Entrepreneurs (JaxCoE)’s Innovation Connection Conference in Jacksonville, Fla. and share his vision of a world cleansed of many of its problems. Kevin’s vision of an entrepreneurial heaven, in which the ability to find the “100,000 solutions to the world’s problems”, has begun to manifest itself in Austin, and Tech Ranch hopes to foster this entrepreneurial mission in ecosystems across the U.S. and the world.

Tech Ranch is pleased to share that JaxCoE’s founder, Kate Stewart, was a former Venture Forth program participant and has taken Tech Ranch’s community building mission to Florida. JaxCoE has formed many of it’s ecosystem development philosophies after Tech Ranch, and for Kevin to travel to Jacksonville himself and meet its thriving community of forward thinking entrepreneurs, investors and students was a chance to see the future. Tech Ranch Austin Bound for International Entrepreneurs – December 3-4, 2015

Over the past year, Tech Ranch has been growing…and growing…and growing. Whether it be moving into a new space last December, increasing our numbers across all Austin-based programs, or exponentially expanding our “community of practice” internationally we have been proud at what 2015 has brought our way so far.

Much of the work we’ve been doing is outside of Austin, and even outside of the United States – ranging from a joint venture in Japan to visiting delegations from Norway, Japan, France and Denmark over the past month. As we’ve reflected on this network that has been created, as well as Kevin’s most recent trip to Semana del Emprendedor in Mexico City, we realized that we need to not only travel for our international entrepreneurs but invite them to visit Austin to learn and connect. First off – bookmark this page: http://www.gewusa.org/austin/!

According to Global Entrepreneurship Week:

It’s no surprise that Austin is a booming city for young entrepreneurs, new firms and new jobs. With the massive increase in popularity for Austin’s annual attraction, SXSW, more companies have noticed the superb conditions for raising a startup in the city. Austin has grown in every way over the last ten years with an annual increase of population growth at 3%, job growth at 3%, and an ever expanding economy. It is continually ranked on Forbes’ America’s Fastest Growing Cities list.

Austin’s big name high-tech firms such as Apple, Google, Facebook, eBay, Cisco and HP have made the area an international hub of innovation. Paired with a low cost of living and an all around “cool” vibe, Austin is a fantastic city for young entrepreneurs.  [Read more…]

Defining Entrepreneurship: Types of Investors

Kevin Koym, CEO of Tech Ranch, goes through the types of investors that startups consider – going from customers through themselves and private equity.

Hi, it’s Kevin Koym, Founder of Tech Ranch. Today we are going to talk about investors. In our previous talk, I spoke a little about the importance of customer money. I have some bias as an entrepreneur, especially since I’ve always worked with early stage technology, to figure out the customer first. However, I understand the value of investment and I get a lot of individuals who come to me asking about my friends in PE, whether they should talk to VCs, or if angel investors are the way to go.  [Read more…]

Being a Tech Ranch Intern

????????????????????????????????????

My name is Jacob Smith I was the newest temporary addition to the Tech Ranch team, official title: Marketing Intern, unofficial title: supporter of all who need help. I am a senior (who luckily already got to walk!) at Long Island University Brooklyn, studying Marketing & Entrepreneurship. I am also the team captain of the Men’s Soccer team. I knew when deciding to play a division I sport in an environment like New York City my life would be very different. I felt confident being a collegiate athlete would prepare me for any career path I decided to pursue after college. The Early morning workouts partnered with a desperate sprint to class followed by a sluggish walk to training finished off with evening classes. The busy schedule, the constant rushing, the urge to always do your best, these things all become routine though sounding overwhelming one is able to find the motivation to adapt. The exhaustion was almost always physical, my summer internships were never going to challenge my physical capabilities but push my mental capacity and challenge my ability to produce creative and thoughtful work.
