SXSW Edu
Cross-Border Early Entrepreneur Education
Tech Ranch® and the Mean Eyed Cat Venture Labs have partnered together to help educate early-stage entrepreneurs in Manitoba and the Prairie Region of Canada. With the resources that global governments have to support startups, they want to ensure that these startups are truly prepared to grow and scale. How do we implement a training program across cultures and train the trainers to build bridges between the world and Austin?
SXSW Interactive
Women in Tech – Change Through Social Impact
The panel will look at how women leaders involved in social impact platforms, businesses, organizations and communities can take actions for social good. The panel will also look at the solutions that technology innovation is offering people that are looking to make the world a better place.
The Dance Between Energy Storage and Efficiency
Across the automotive, industrial consumer and energy requirements industries there are ways to make the use of energy more efficient. Energy storage can be used to reduce the peak load requirements thereby making the overall system more efficient. Why do you need energy storage? Solar, for example, is only available during the day, so storage is crucial unless we want to come up with night time solar capture technology.
An array of semi-conductor advancements in sensing technologies have matured to a point where man to machine interfaces are available in low-power, miniaturized and low cost sensor formats. This revolution is similar to the invention of the transistor that started the electronics revolution or the invention of the integrated circuit that started the semi-conductor boom.
Japan as an Emerging Player in BioTech
Japan is a leader in biotech research and some of the best drugs, technology and treatments get developed in Japan. The biotech startup scene is nascent in Japan despite that. Most of the research is done in large universities and commercialization is done in large companies. That landscape is changing. Our panel will explore how to help Japanese biotech entrepreneurs and startups to become successful and large businesses.
Technology to the Rescue for the Water Crisis
The panel will discuss the technology that is in development or in research and development to address three main issues. The generation of new water, for example, technology to turn waste water into potable water, the distribution of water, for example, seeing how much water is needed to keep landscaping from failing using sensors and the efficient use of water. Do we really need drinkable water in our toilets? Not necessarily, but we aim to answer whether the infrastructure involved in implemented this technology is worth the cost compared to the gains made with efficiency.
AR/VR/Gamification Revolutionizing Education
Traditional education is not moving as fast as technology. Many learning models including immersive learning, contextual learning, outdoor learning and real-world application are helping students better retain information. Augmented reality, virtual reality and gamification enhance the creativity, problem-solving abilities and subject matter retention of students who are engaged. Today’s children are already smarter than generations past and we need to keep up with their speed and type of learning.
Innovating Healthcare for Special Needs
Technology has made it possible to support, at a deeper level, our most vulnerable. Hear from the panel of worldwide researchers how digital technology is creating a fundamental impact and shift for children and adults with special needs.
Technology has revolutionized many aspects of healthcare, yet, still doesn’t handle some of the most fundamental needs in automation tasks in caring for people. This panel will discuss 360 degrees of care, giving examples of how entrepreneurs are bringing technology and solutions to not just medicine directly but healthcare in general.
Supporting Pioneers that Change Our World
There has been a fundamental shift about how entrepreneurship is seen in driving solutions to the world’s problems. This renaissance is driven by the technologies available as well as the attitudes towards taking risk as entrepreneurs. In this panel we’ll discuss how to support these entrepreneurs through training and building entrepreneurial ecosystems around the world.
