Kyle de Haas started his coworking adventure at Cospace and stayed there until its closure. He then ended up at Tech Ranch®, sharing an office with Mason Hale, founder of Swimtopia. Kyle is a serial entrepreneur with a solid academic background. After getting his undergraduate degree in Management of Information Systems from UT-Austin and running a couple of companies, he wanted to expand his knowledge. He considered both Harvard and Stanford’s MBA programs, but ended up at Acton School of Business on a friend’s recommendation, attracted by its philosophy of recruiting only successful entrepreneurs as instructors.
Kyle is a successful serial entrepreneur who is currently involved with two companies: one is a managed IT services provider, and the other a franchise matching service that connects aspiring entrepreneurs with franchise opportunities. Kyle thoroughly vets prospective entrepreneur clients in his quest to find a franchise that aligns with their skills and goals. He is passionate about franchising because, he says, it lowers the risk of business failure (after 2 years, 64% of brand new business are still operating, v. 91% for FranNet-matched franchise owners; at the five year mark, the numbers drop to 50% v. 85%) and reduces the time and expense spent on necessary startup considerations such as naming, branding, and much more. The most successful companies he’s seen are not actually in tech; they are local service companies that fill ongoing needs like senior care, child education, B2B professional services, and home convenience services.
Kyle’s hobbies include music (he plays in an eclectic cover band The Native Transplants) and amateur radio (he’s building a receiver with his son using a Raspberry Pi and a judicious application of Legos).
