Food Security – “People should Eat”
Stories of entrepreneurs who are actually making food security and food accessibility a reality.
We’ll hear from Joi Chevalier, Founder and CEO of Cook’s Nook which presently produces 3,000+ meals per day for people facing food insecurity in Austin. We’ll also hear from Jodi Lane, Executive Director of Fruitful Commons, a 501c3 nonprofit that is working alongside 70+ Austin community-led organizations to grow food, strengthen communities and foster stewardship of the natural commons. We’ll talk about the food access work they did during the height of the Covid-19 pandemic and their ongoing initiatives.
About the Speakers:
Joi Chevalier – Experienced senior e-commerce software product manager, strategist, and technical program leader with 20 years in setting vision and execution plans for online technologies that achieve business value and high user satisfaction. I’ve successfully created, delivered, and marketed first-to-market internet applications as well as key technologies that drive the largest e-commerce websites in a wide range of markets. Leading cross-functional teams is a focus, in-house, distributed, and global.
Jodi Lane – is the Executive Director of Fruitful Commons and a Co-founder of the Festival Beach Food Forest. Her experience and training in architecture, urban design and community engagement informs her work with individuals and groups, increasing their capacity and capability to engage in regenerative systems change. Jodi has participated on consultant teams for a number of master plan initiatives in Austin, Texas, as well as in Ukraine and Kenya. Jodi is a certified LENSES Facilitator of systems-thinking design and holds a Masters Degree in Architecture from the University of Texas.
