A wide assortment of locally developed video games was on display this past
Thursday night and Maestro Interactive Games was one of them
demoing its Nintendo Wii U title “Percy’s Predicament”.
“Game On Austin” is a partnership between the Austin Chronicle and SXSW
Gaming which brings Austin developers face to face with their audience. To the average
person, video games might appear to be created in some magical realm and dropped
into the stores. What they don’t realize is that local game development is on par with the
local film and music community.
An independent and creatively ambitious spirit was shown throughout the venue,
from the critically celebrated “Stanley Parable”, to the Xbox One title “Lococycle”.
The great thing about console development is that Unity Technologies, which
creates Unity3D, a game engine, is having the licensing costs paid for by Microsoft and
Nintendo. This means that approved developers such as Maestro Interactive Games
can put out really amazing projects for the Microsoft Xbox One and Nintendo Wii U
without that overhead cost. This is a great thing.
We demoed Percy’s Predicament to over 100 Austinites at this event and every
single one had a smile on their face. That is great for us and it means we created
something magical. We can not wait for it to launch in a few weeks on the Nintendo Wii
U!
