SUMMARY:Global Connections Virtual Meetup
DESCRIPTION:What happens when you put the right people in the same room—with intention? \nOn Thursday\, May 28 at 11:00 AM (Austin time)\, we’re bringing together impact innovators\, policymakers\, and ecosystem leaders for a virtual session designed to do one thing well: create meaningful connections\, fast. \nThis isn’t another networking event where conversations stay surface-level. \nIt’s a guided experience\, led by Kevin Koym along with our long-standing community\, built on proven methods that help people connect with clarity\, intention\, and real outcomes. \nWe’re taking the dynamic we’ve already created in-person—across gatherings in Austin\, Monterrey\, Italy\, and beyond—and translating it into a virtual space that actually works. \nIn a short amount of time\, you’ll meet the right people\, have the right conversations\, and walk away with connections that can move things forward. \nBecause the goal isn’t just to meet people. It’s to build relationships that matter. \n  \nRSVP HERE

SUMMARY:Bodega and Small Business Innovation Summit - Digitizing the Corner Store
DESCRIPTION:There are 15\,000 bodegas in New York City. They move billions in commerce. And almost none of them run on modern infrastructure. \nThat’s not a problem — it’s a massive\, untapped opportunity. \nThe Bodega and Small Business Innovation Summit gathers the sharpest minds in media tech\, AI\, fintech\, and security to unpack a radical thesis: the corner store is the next great platform — if we build the right tools and protect what makes it matter. \nThis isn’t about slapping an iPad on a deli counter. The panel introduces the “Sovereign Bodega” framework — integrated digital systems that let small businesses unlock new revenue streams\, compete with chains\, and scale on their own terms. Modernization without displacement. Tech without erasure. \nHosted by the Bodega and Small Business Association\, Tech Ranch\, Bodegas TV\, and Angeles Investors during #NYTechWeek\, this is where community-rooted commerce meets institutional capital. \nIf you’re allocating toward urban retail\, local commerce infrastructure\, or AI-powered SMB tools — this panel is your deal flow. Grab your spot before it’s gone. \nThis conversation brings together founders\, operators\, and technologists to explore how integrated systems—not isolated tools—can redefine the future of small business in urban communities. \nThis event is hosted by Bodega and Small Business Association\, Tech Ranch. Collaborators also include Bodegas TV and Angeles Investors. \nThis event is a part of #NYTechWeek—a week of events hosted by VCs and startups to bring together the tech ecosystem. \nRSVP HERE

SUMMARY:AI in Education MiniSummit
DESCRIPTION:A Tech Ranch conversation on what is actually working in the classroom\, and what is coming next\nTuesday\, July 14\, 2026 | 3:00 – 4:30pm CDT | Live on Zoom \nEveryone agrees AI is going to reshape education. Far fewer people can tell you what that looks like on a Tuesday morning in a real classroom. This MiniSummit brings together educators\, founders\, and practitioners who are doing the actual work\, so you can hear what is happening now\, not just the hype. \nModerated by Kevin Koym\, founder of Tech Ranch\, the panel will dig into questions like: Where is the gap between what schools teach and what the workforce needs\, and can AI help close it? How are teachers\, students\, and administrators really using AI day to day? What do we make of the counter-trends\, the schools going back to paper\, banning phones\, and blocking AI altogether? And what does great AI-era education look like for the next generation of students and builders? \nCome with your own questions. This is meant to be a working conversation\, not a lecture. \nWho you will hear from\nJenn Clemente is Principal Consultant at Raizon-8 and the 2025 event board co-chair of the Austin AI Alliance. A former foreign correspondent who covered the Balkan wars\, she specializes in corporate storytelling\, strategic communications\, and AI strategy\, with past roles at D-Wave Quantum\, VMware\, and IBM. She recently led the first-of-its-kind DreamBuilders workshop\, teaching 4th through 8th graders at Alpha School in Brownsville to turn their dreams into AI-generated films. \nTonja O’Neill is a strategic technology leader who spans both worlds this summit is about. After a career in software development\, program management\, and business consulting\, including founding her firm Soverex\, she moved into the classroom to teach Computer Science\, Mathematics\, and Finance at the high school level. There she led an AI pilot program\, gave students a real-world defect-tracking experience\, and built two distinct six-week programming curricula: one taking students from Python fundamentals through an original data project\, concept to data-gathering to finished product\, entirely without AI; the other built around using AI as an amplifier\, where students learned to debug AI-generated code and direct AI to architect an original program to their own vision. She also advised district leadership on tech curricula and EdTech platform selection. She holds an MBA from UT Austin and a BS in Computer Science from Texas A&M\, and is a Certified ScrumMaster and Distinguished Toastmaster. \nTom Haymes is a technologist\, educator\, and social scientist\, and the author of Learn at Your Own Risk and Discovering Digital Humanity. He was the design lead for Houston Community College’s West Houston Institute and has served as Storyteller in Residence for Arizona State University’s ShapingEDU Project. Through his practice IdeaSpaces\, he helps institutions rethink how learning happens in physical and digital environments. \nSteven Galbraith is founder of Tappy\, a Tampa-based edtech company. Tappy is a 24/7 AI tutoring platform for K-12 students in math\, science\, and language arts\, giving students personalized\, step-by-step help while showing teachers real-time dashboards of student progress. He is a strong advocate for transparent\, “no black box” AI in learning. \nHosted by Tech Ranch Austin. Free to attend. The session will be recorded. \nJoin on Zoom

SUMMARY:Campfire is back
DESCRIPTION:Campfire is back.\nOn Thursday\, August 13\, we’re bringing Campfire back to Tech Ranch. \nCampfire has always been about something simple: getting the right people in the room and helping them move something forward. \nOver the years\, I’ve watched one introduction lead to a customer\, a partner\, a new market\, or the answer someone had been stuck looking for. That’s the kind of thing we want to create more of. \nSo this won’t be a typical networking event. You don’t need a polished pitch\, and you don’t need to work the room. \nCome ready to talk about what you’re building and what you need right now. \nWe’ll hear from entrepreneurs in the room\, look for the connections that matter\, and help people find the two or three conversations that could make a real difference. \nSome people will come because they’ve been part of Tech Ranch for years. Others will be walking through the door for the first time. Both are welcome. \nBring your venture. Bring the thing you’re stuck on. Bring your willingness to help someone else\, too. \nThursday\, August 13\n6:00–8:00 PM\nTech Ranch\, 535 E 5th Street\nFree to attend · Limited to 75 people \nPull up a chair and be part of the first Campfire back. \nReserve your spot and come build the relationships that can move your venture forward. \nCampfire will continue monthly\, usually on the second Wednesday\, alternating between in-person and virtual. August 13 is a one-time Thursday relaunch.

SUMMARY:Celebration of Life for Susan Strausberg
DESCRIPTION:Susan Strausberg was a Tech Ranch mentor and one of the people who made the Austin technology community what it is. Her family is hosting a virtual Celebration of Life\, and everyone who knew her is welcome. \nSunday\, August 16\, 2026\, 3:00 to 4:30 PM CT (Zoom room open until 5:00 PM). \nRegister in advance: https://us02web.zoom.us/meeting/register/u3UbHYG4SlKlYcSiMZjH5w \nSusan co-founded EDGAR Online in 1995 and served as CEO for thirteen years. EDGAR Online was the first commercial internet distributor of SEC-based financial information\, and it did something that still matters: it took data that had been locked away for professionals and put it in reach of everyone else. That is democratizing access to information\, and she was doing it before most people understood why it was important. RR Donnelley acquired the company in 2012. \nShe moved from New York to Austin in 2010 and co-founded 9W Search. She showed up for this community over and over\, on panels\, in programs\, and as a mentor to founders who needed someone who had actually been through it. She was a Springboard Enterprises alumna and spent a career opening doors for women in an industry that was not opening them on its own. \nLong before any of that\, she edited and published The Women’s Guide to Books\, a two volume catalog of works by notable women\, with a board of consultants that included Gloria Steinem\, Joan Ganz Cooney\, and Nora Ephron. \nHer daughter Laura is convening friends and family from every chapter of her life\, childhood through EDGAR Online\, film\, Austin\, and Ledgestone\, to share memories and stories. Come listen\, laugh\, and remember with us. \nIf you have a memory or story of Susan\, Laura is collecting them ahead of time at Laura_J_Strausberg@Hotmail.com. \nDivInc is naming its Women in Tech Accelerator in her honor. She spent her life opening doors for women\, and now her name is on one of them. In lieu of flowers\, gifts in her memory can go to DivInc: Donate here. \nHer Tech Ranch mentor page is still live at techranchaustin.com/mentors/susan-strausberg/.
