SUMMARY:Venture Outfitter Weekly presents: Innovating the Vulnerable Out of Harm's Way: Community Conversation
DESCRIPTION:Innovating The Vulnerable Out of Harm’s Way: A Community Discussion \nFollowing up on the discussions that we’ve had about how to help refugees\, especially Afghanis getting out of harm’s way given the events of the last few weeks\, our community is going to have a community discussion going over ideas and bringing different stakeholders together around this issue of refugees\, Afghanistan and more generally – immigration. \nAs we’ve had in the past and what Kevin has said many times – innovation is a social function. What we are doing for this week’s VO Weekly is have several different people who are working with refugees or different types to bring them together to share insights in an open community way. We’ve seen out of these types of conversations before that parties get connected to do business with each other and expect that this will happen this time as well. \nJoin us to be part of the conversation this Thursday at 11AM CT on September 9th – we look forward to seeing you as a long term participant of the VO Weekly meetings! \nBe sure to join the Venture Outfitter community to get access! \nVenture Outfitter by Tech Ranch®\n\n\n\n\n\n \n \n\n \n\n\n

SUMMARY:Venture Outfitter weekly presents: Reforming Healthcare
DESCRIPTION:Healthcare is Bad Business \nAccording to the World Bank\, the United States healthcare expenditure per capita is $10\,623 a year. According to the World Health Organization’s ranking of the world’s healthcare systems\, the US comes in at 37th place\, just below Costa Rica (per capita expenditure $909) and just above Slovenia. \nFrance\, which comes in first place on the same ranking\, spends less than half what the US spends on healthcare per capita at $4\,690 a year. This is a very bad deal for Americans\, who remain staunchly proud of such a poorly performing healthcare industry and the country’s business prowess. \nBooming commercial hospital groups\, highly profitable health insurers\, phenomenally performing pharma\, all with giant Federal oversight\, leave citizens with a lousy deal. These are appalling outcomes\, even if there is blind delight in the outputs. In this sector\, France’s single payer system shows ‘socialism’ outperforming our ‘capitalist’ system\, not only in human terms\, but also financially. If you don’t want to cry\, don’t read the Brookings report on the economics of the US healthcare system.\nHence\, it should not surprise you that I remain passionate about the entrepreneurial opportunities to build an economy for the people and the planet. \nIn this week’s VO Weekly\, we’re going to hear from Lauren R. Jahnke\, MPAff and Randall Baker on insights about Reforming Healthcare. A quick view on the emerging landscape of healthcare approaching post-pandemic times and the role of technology moving forward. \n  \nAbout the Speakers: \nLauren R. Jahnke\, MPAff\, has been a self-employed health policy consultant in Austin for over 20 years through her company LRJ Research & Consulting. She specializes in researching and writing about healthcare policy and issues at the city\, state\, and national levels\, and has written about many aspects of health insurance\, healthcare reform\, public health\, and health disparities. She just published an updated edition of her book Decoding Health Insurance and the Alternatives: Options\, Issues\, and Tips for Saving Money\, which covers all the types of health insurance in the United States\, from private insurance to government programs\, and helps consumers understand what they qualify for and how to save money and be more informed when they need health care. It also has a chapter summarizing insurance options for small and large businesses. Lauren has a bachelor’s degree in biology\, a master’s degree in public affairs\, and a graduate certificate in public health\, all from The University of Texas. Contact her at www.LRJConsulting.com. \nLauren will speak about healthcare reform in the U.S.\, giving an overview of some of the problems and reasons that costs continue to rise faster than inflation. She will cover some of the major issues and what she sees as contradictions or tensions in the healthcare system\, such as the need to make a profit vs. the need to help people\, and how health care is not a normal market in that the prices are often hidden from consumers until after they receive services. She will then discuss some possible comprehensive reforms and some smaller reforms or actions that have been proposed or enacted to rein in costs as well as improve health care quality. \nRandall Baker –  is the President and COO at MI7\, A classic capitalist\, he is passionate about the power of free markets to create wealth and enhance people’s lives. His first experience with the world of business was as an entrepreneur at age 13. He has worked with and for companies ranging from Fortune top 10 to pre-launch start-ups. He regularly advise companies on business models\, business plan development\, market strategies and successful project implementation. He also gravitate towards ideas with high degrees of technical and/or leadership talent where operational\, business development\, creative problem solving and leadership skills are sought. \nJoin us in this week’s discussion together with our network of entrepreneurs from all around the world. \nRSVP here: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/venture-outfitter-weekly-reforming-healthcare-tickets-211224416917 \nBe sure to join the Venture Outfitter community to get access! \nVenture Outfitter by Tech Ranch®
